The Greyman Approach to Online Content Consumption
The Normal Approach
Visit a news website without any extensions or add-ons installed on your web browser. Tacitly provide your news website extensive amounts of data pertaining to your web browsing history. Silently receive a dearth of tracking files, cookies, and other web content stored on your computer for other websites to grab without your authorization. Tolerate eye-catching ads, pop-up windows, and embedded video clips that play automatically.
The Good Approach
Visit a news website with the free uBlock Origin extension installed on your web browser. Smile at lack of ads, pop-up windows trackers, and other web content blocked from your news website view.
The Gooder Approach
Visit a news website with the free uBlock Origin extension installed on your web browser with additional filtering turned on in uBlock’s settings. For example:
The Even Gooder Approach
Install the free and open-source Calibre eBook manager on your computer.
Copy/paste your news website's RSS feed URL into the News section of Calibre.
Create a scheduled task to fetch news from your news website, e.g. 7 AM every morning, and smile as Calibre pulls news headlines, content, and links into a digital ePub file to read within your Calibre software.
Take a look in the rearview mirror at The Normal Approach you used to take to read news online and smile at how less-distracting your information diet has become.
Raise an eyebrow of curiosity as you consider adding other RSS feed URLs from other websites you visit on a regular basis to create a daily electronic digest of all your frequently-visited information websites to consume content outside of your web browser.
The Greyman Approach
Transfer your Calibre News .ePub digital book via USB cable from desktop computer to a portable eReader, in my case an Onyx Boox Note Air 2, to enjoy your daily digest o' information away from your computer. Like Captain Picard.
